WORK STREAM UPDATES

Hall and Access Sub-Group/Presentation

AK informed the Committee that the Sub-group had reviewed the emphasis of the presentation.  Apart from explaining the background and work completed to date, the presentation would concentrate on various options on the position of the new village hall, what it will look like and environmental issues.   This would then give rise to discussion, comments and views from those attending.  DC then gave the Committee a preview of the presentation and asked for their comments and input.  A number of observations were made by the residents attending the meeting regarding their opposition to the hall and access moving closer to houses in Saxon Meadows.  The Sub-group responded to this by informing them that all the options would be open to discussion at the presentation on 11 March and that feedback forms would be made available for written comments from everyone attending.

Play Areas/Young People and Children

GS is expecting an estimate from SMP (the original manufacturers of the slide and climbing towers) for the installation, repair and modification of the equipment.  The figures he has been given over the phone are:  £3,890 Slide and £13,414 Towers.  Quotes for new equipment have been received.   DC confirmed that RoSPA see no reason why the equipment cannot be installed with modification to meet the safety standards.    The Sub-group will submit a proposal to the Committee at the next meeting which will include a grant application for funds.

Activities Sub-Group

JC reported that the children’s afternoon club at half-term was generally well attended.    The club will be open 5 days during the Easter school holidays, with two planned events, a craft afternoon and a family bingo afternoon.  Games afternoons for adults have been held instead of Bingo.   However, attendance was poor.  The afternoon slot doesn’t suit a number of residents as they pick up their grandchildren from school.   BAG may hold either Bingo or Games events one evening a month in the future – subject to the availability of the hall.

Our Rural Youth Services contact, Anita Gagen, is currently working with BAG to set up a Kickboxing course for teenage girls to attend during the Summer term.  DC will be getting a work party together to install the cricket nets in April.  Posters will be on display regarding the fund-raising Quiz Night on 19 April and tickets are available now.

Playing Field – No report

Heath and Environment – No report

FUNDING – No report

BUSINESS PLAN – Need a report at next meeting          Action:  AK/JC

ANY OTHER BUSINESS

JM raised the subject of the trees, planted by the Heritage Group along the by-pass (A1067) These had inadvertently been cut down in the process of grass cutting.   He suggested that they should be replaced with larger saplings that would be protected.   It would be nice to achieve this in October.                               Action:  JM
