Presentation at Open Meeting

Purpose of the meeting

·               To see what interest there is in the project 'test the water'

·               Express our views, ideas and concerns.

·               Share experience and knowledge.

·               Agree the 'way forward'.

Back Ground 'why have we got what we've got'

·               The old wooden hall and bowling green sold for building (independent organisations)

·               Site for new hall agreed.

·               Plans & designs drawn up for new hall.

·               Design chosen with sport in mind ?

·               Funding not extended to cover total cost.

·               3rd of the building completed and adapted for immediate use.

Issues 'what's wrong with what we've got'

·               Hall is small, not flexible, not very inviting as a venue.

·               Poor design and layout.

·               Bad facilities i.e. Kitchen, changing rooms, toilets, floor, lighting etc.

·               Access - road condition.

·               Playing field poorly drained.

·               Children's play area not up to standard.

·               General lack of facilities.

Future 'What would we like and need'

·               Seek the views of the community, users, new users, explore new markets.

·               Talk and learn from others who have experience.

·               Be 'COMMERCIAL'

·               Create a wish list and draw up plans.

·               Prioritise.

·               Set mile stones and time scales.

·               Share the vision with all and 'MARKET' that vision.

Funding 'What will it cost and how do we fund it'

·               Depends on our vision.

·               Break down the financial need against our priorities.

·               Talk & learn from those who have experience.

·               Engage and meet with our District Council, we have Community Development Officers, they can help.

·               Research for grants from charities, trusts, Heritage Lottery Fund, Parish Council, District Councils, Governmental Departments and individuals.

·               Any new housing developments approved should financially support this project.

Risks 'What happens if we do nothing'

·               Nothing will happen - we will continue to have an incomplete hall. The hall and grounds will still be maintained.

·               This is not an option, our village needs better facilities as it grows and it will continue to do so over the next few years.

·               Other villages manage it, Foulsham, Foxley, Swanton Morley. Why not Bawdeswell ?

·               Over the last few years new organisations have started with good support, but the facilities do not meet the demand. Danger, events will start to move out of the village or frustration will lead to them closing down.

·               We can do this…………..with a little help!

What now 'How do we move this forward'

·               We appoint a steering group reporting to the Parish Council Chairman.

·               Agree funding from the Parish Council and or Village hall fund at the next meeting and set up Hall and Grounds Development fund account.

·               Agree monthly meetings.

·               Agree a 'project' plan, breaking down the project in to 'work streams'.

·               Agree timescales

Action 'Who will move this forward'

·               We set-up and agree a 'steering group' under my chairmanship who will report to the Chairman of the Parish Council.

·               The team will need, alongside the Chairman, a Secretary/Admin support role, Financial Treasurer/Advisor, banking through the Parish Clerk and a small team up to 10 'owners'.

·               Agree monthly meeting timetable.

Time scales  'How long will this take'

·               I don't know ……….. but we must be realistic!

·               A project of this size …. on a part-time basis at least 5 years from start to finish, depending on funding.

Any Other Business

·               Who would like to join the Steering Group ?
