The
Cricket Nets are up! – Bawdeswell Activities Group (BAG) has completed
this part of their project with funding from various sources. BAG gratefully
acknowledges grants from Norfolk Community Foundation and Breckland Council,
a donation from Bawdeswell Parish Council and very generous donations from
residents. Thanks also to all who attended and/or assisted with our fund
raising quizes. Below, the nets in use
on Saturday (28th June) afternoon. Total cost was just over £700 for
materials with all labour being voluntary. The activities group hope to do
some more fund raising in the future and install a second net alongside. We
will need to raise about £450 with the second net being added on to one side
of the first.
A group of volunteers
carried out foundation works on Thursday 26th June and then erected the nets
on Saturday 28th June. The activities group would like to give special thanks
to Mike Elsden, Phil Hague, William Mason, Dave Shannon & Graham Swain
for their efforts. The nets seem to be popular as they were in use even as
they were being completed. The following photos show some of the work in progress.
William cuts the grass
for us prior to marking out whilst the rest of the team look on and give helpful
advice.

Mike and Dave have
started to concrete in the sockets.
The foundations are
complete and we’ll all come back on Saturday.
Saturday afternoon and
the poles are laid out ready for assembly of the frame.
The frame has been
assembled and the netting is being secured. The matting surface has been
laid.
Mike bravely carries on
fixing the netting whilst the first users get started with a temporary
wicket.
All complete with the permanent
spring stumps and white lining. Electronic copies of these
and other photos of the construction and use of the nets are available on
request. |
